As from Wednesday 1 October 2008, telephone callers will no longer be able to dial the old five digit fixed line numbers.
The parallel running period which allowed customers to dial both the old five digit and new eight digit ended on Tuesday 31 September 2008. As from this date customers dialling the old five digit numbers will be greeted with an announcement informing them that they have misdialled and to redial by adding '200' infront of the Gibtelecom number they wish to call. This announcement will be available until 31 December 2008, when the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority have stipulated the changeover is to be completed. After this date callers still dialling the former five digit number will receive a 'number unobtainable' tone.
